Nautical Card using Fruit Net Flowers Embellishments

Step 1:   Cut a piece of yellow card 11½" x 5¾" and score it at 5¾ and fold in half to make a square card.  Next cut a strip of blue card 2" x 5½" and wrap 2 lengths of ribbon around each long side of the strip.  Secure the ribbon in place with Double-sided Tape (DST).

Step 2:  Cut a piece of patterned paper that measures 5½" x 3¼" Secure the ribbon panel to the left hand side of the card and the patterned paper to the right, as shown above, using DST.  The patterned papers used in this card are from the Kaisercraft Seaside Collection.

Step 3: Stamp  boat diagonally on a 2" square of white card and the greeting across another length of white card using Black Soot Distress ink.  The stamps are from a set of clear stamps I have had for a long time so I thought I wouldn't be able to tell you their name but I searched on the internet and I found them!  They are from Woodware and are called By The Sea.

Step 4:   Cut a 3¼" length of patterned paper and trim the Greeting into a ½" x 3¼" piece.  Mount them both on a strip of the blue card that measures 3¼" x 1½" using DST.

Step 5:  Colour in your boat image using Pro Markers (or similar).  If you use a water based pen don't forget to stamp your image in a permanent black ink.  The colours I used were Cardinal Red, China Blue, Pastel Blue and Tulip Yellow.  I kept the colouring basic and did not add shading.  I mounted the image on a 2¼" square of yellow card using DST.

Step 6:  Mount the text panel on the card with DST and the Boat panel diagonally on the card with foam pads.

Step 7:  I wanted to use some matching buttons but did not have any suitable so here is how I made my own.  I punched 2½" circles of blue card.  Using a large embossing tool and a piece of foam I embossed around the very edges of the circles so that they formed a button shape.

Step 8:  I pieced two holes in each button with a map pin - on the foam mat of course (this photo was taken after the event!!)

Step 9: Thread a needle with a length of red embroidery thread and tie small lengths of thread through the paper buttons knotting them securely before trimming the ends.

Step 10:  Secure two net flowers made following the Fruit and Vegetable Net Flowers Tutorial to the card front using a hot glue gun.  Be careful as the net will melt.

Step 11:  Again using the hot glue gun secure the paper buttons in place in the centre of the net flowers.

Step 12:  I felt the card was not quite finished so I added black and white faux stitching and dots as a final embellishment.

Hope you like this fun way to recycle the bags from your lemons!!  Follow this link to the tutorial.
